  • 1. THE DISTILLERY
    The Agroindustria Engenho Terra Vermelha S.A. is located on 124 acres of one of the best soils in the world, the red clay soil in the south of Brazil, known originally for its great coffee plantations, and today one of the largest soybean producers in the world.

    The distillery is certified organic by the IBD (Instituto Biodinamico), according to standard of the USDA NOP (USDA National Organic Program) and IFOAM (International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements).

    It was developed according to rigorous technical procedures to produce organic sugar cane of the highest quality for the Terra Vermelha organic cachaça.
    2. THE PRODUCTION PROCESS
    The Terra Vermelha cachaça is produced through the distillation of organic sugar cane fermented juices in copper stills. It is a handcrafted product.
    The sugar cane is harvested manually and immediately placed in vehicles used specifically for transporting it to the mill. A juice is and then it is decantated and goes through a sugar level control before it is fermented. The fermentation is done organically according to standards established by the Insituto Biodinamico (IBD) and the USDA Organic program. After the fermentation process, this sugar cane "wine" is distilled to produce the Terra organic cachaca.
    During the distillation process, the first part or “head”, and the last part or “tail” are discarded since they contain substances of inferior quality. Only the noble part of the distillation, called “heart”, is used during the production of the Terra organic cachaca.
    This product rests in barrels of Jequitiba Rosa, a noble Brazilian wood considered neutral, before it is bottled.
    3. ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY
    The Engenho Terra Vermelha is an ecologically correct company. All products are grown and produced without the use of chemical fertilizers, pesticides or any other agent that is not 100% organic.
    All of the sugar cane produced is used during the production of the organic cachaca. The physical residues of the ground cane are used to produce heat for our boilers and part is used as fertilizer in the fields. The "head" and "tail" parts of the distillation are used as fuel for our machines.
    All processes work in harmony in order to produce organic sugar cane of the best quality and save the environment.
    4. QUALITY POLICY
    From the time the sugar cane is planted to the bottling of the cachaça, all steps in the production process follow the most rigorous quality and hygiene standards.
    Our employees are highly trained and capacitated professionals, dedicated to maintaining our facility within the standards set by the IBD.
    Each bottle is manually inspected to assure our clients that they are purchasing the best cachaça in the market.
